Murtaza meaning
Murtaza (مرتضیٰ) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Chosen, approved; agreeable; a title of ʿAli
Also used to mean: one pleasing to God
Murtaza (مرتضیٰ) is the Arabic murtaḍā, the passive participle of irtaḍā, a form of raḍiya, "to be pleased, to approve". Platts's Urdu dictionary defines it as chosen or approved, and agreeable, and notes it as one of the titles of ʿAli. Lane explains the root as being pleased or content, and pleasing or satisfying others. In Indian usage the name is strongly linked with ʿAli ibn Abi Talib, often called ʿAli Murtaza. Name lists give the meaning as "chosen" or "one pleasing to God". Murtuza is another spelling.
