Qurban meaning
Qurban (قربان) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
An offering or sacrifice, by which one draws near to God
Qurban (قربان) is the Arabic qurbān, from the root q-r-b, "to be near". Lane's lexicon gives it as an offering or oblation to God, and sometimes a sacrifice; Platts explains it as "that whereby one draws nigh to God". The Quran uses the word in the story of Adam's two sons, who each "offered an offering" (5:27). In Urdu, qurbān jānā means to be devoted to someone, to give oneself for them, and qurbānī is the Eid al-Adha sacrifice. Name lists give Qurban as "sacrifice". It is often joined with Ali, as Qurban Ali, especially in older generations.
