Nihar meaning
Nihar (निहार) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Mist, fog, hoar-frost, heavy dew
Nihar (निहार) comes from Sanskrit nīhāra, which Monier-Williams gives as mist, fog, hoar-frost or heavy dew, a word found as far back as the Rigveda. The girls' name Niharika, "little mist", comes from the same word. Name lists give Nihar as "dew" or "mist", matching the dictionary. In Hindi and Marathi the name is usually written with a short i, which also happens to match the verb nihārnā, "to gaze lovingly", though that is a separate word. Nihar Ranjan Ray was a noted Bengali historian.
