Purnendu meaning
Purnendu (पूर्णेंदु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पू, it is a Kanya rashi name (Hasta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The full moon
Purnendu (पूर्णेंदु) joins two Sanskrit words, pūrṇa, "full", and indu, "the moon", so the name means the full moon. Monier-Williams records the compound from classical poetry and from the Kathāsaritsāgara, Somadeva's great collection of stories. Indu has a long history of its own: in the Rig Veda it is a drop, especially a bright drop of soma, and by the time of the Brāhmaṇas it had come to mean the moon. The name is also written पूर्णेन्दु and is given to boys in Hindu families. Bearers include the Bengali poet, artist and film-maker Purnendu Pattrea.
