Vaman meaning
Vaman (वामन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वा, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Dwarfish, small; Viṣṇu in his dwarf incarnation
Vaman (वामन) is Sanskrit vāmana, "dwarfish, small or short in stature". Its great association is Vāmana, the dwarf incarnation of Viṣṇu, which Monier-Williams counts as his fifth descent, undertaken to humble the pride of the Daitya king Bali. In the familiar telling the dwarf asks Bali for as much land as he can cover in three steps, then grows to cosmic size and spans the earth and the heavens; Kerala's Onam festival remembers Bali's yearly return. MW notes that the germ of the story is already in the Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa. The name also belonged to Vāmana, co-author with Jayāditya of the Kāśikā commentary on Pāṇini's grammar, and to a writer on poetics.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Vishnu.
