Sanjana (संजना) matches the spelling of Sanskrit sañjana, which Monier-Williams gives as the act of attaching or fastening, joining, as of the hands, and clinging or adhering. Name lists today usually give "gentle", and sometimes "patient" or "in harmony". We could not find "gentle" in the Sanskrit dictionaries, so it appears to be a modern meaning that has grown up around the name; "in harmony" sits closer to the dictionary idea of joining. Sanjana should not be confused with Sanjna, Sanskrit saṃjñā, which means agreement, understanding or consciousness and is also the name of the wife of the Sun, mother of Manu, Yama and Yamī.
