Sidra meaning
Sidra (سدرہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
A lote tree (the Christ's-thorn jujube); a single tree of the sidr
Sidra is the Arabic word for a single lote tree, the thorny jujube that Lane's lexicon identifies with Rhamnus spina Christi; sidr is the tree in general and its fruit is nabiq. The name draws its meaning from the Quran's account of the Prophet's ascent, which speaks of the Sidrat al-Muntahā, 'the lote tree of the utmost boundary' (53:14). Lane records the explanation that it stands in the Seventh Heaven, that no angel or prophet passes beyond it, and that it shades the waters and Paradise. Baby-name lists give 'lote tree', and some add 'of the stars', a meaning from Latin that has no connection with the Arabic word. The name is used by Muslim families in Pakistan and India.
