Safoora (صفورا) is the name Islamic tradition gives to the wife of the prophet Moses: the daughter of the Midianite elder, often identified with Shuʿayb, whom Moses met at a well after fleeing Egypt, a story told in the Quran (28:23–28) without her name. She is the Zipporah of the Bible, and Strong's concordance explains the Hebrew Tsipporah as a feminine of tsippor, "bird". Some name lists give Safoora as "pure" or "bright", apparently by linking it to Arabic ṣafāʾ, but we found no support for that. The name is used by Indian and Pakistani Muslim families.
