Tehreem (تحریم) is the Arabic taḥrīm, from ḥarrama, "to forbid, to make unlawful" or, of a place or thing, to make it sacred and not to be violated. Lane's lexicon gives the verb as to forbid or prohibit, and the 66th chapter of the Quran is called al-Taḥrīm, "The Prohibition". Name lists give Tehreem as "sanctity", "respect" or "a sacred one"; those senses belong more closely to the related word ḥurma, which Lane defines as inviolability and as reverence, respect or honour. Some scholars advise against the name because of its literal meaning.
