Mahfooza meaning
Mahfooza (محفوظہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Kept safe, guarded, preserved (feminine of maḥfūẓ)
Mahfooza (محفوظہ) is the feminine of the Arabic maḥfūẓ, from ḥafiẓa, "to keep or guard". Lane's lexicon defines maḥfūẓ as kept, preserved, guarded or taken care of because it is highly valued, and quotes the verse describing the Quran as written "on a preserved tablet" (85:22). The same root gives ḥāfiẓ, one who has memorised the Quran, and the Urdu ḥifāẓat, "protection". Name lists give Mahfooza as "protected" or "safeguarded", in line with the dictionary. Mahfuza is another spelling.
