Maheen (مہین) is the Persian and Urdu mahīn. Platts's dictionary defines it as fine, subtle or thin, the opposite of coarse, as in fine cloth or a fine thread, and also lists the older sense of greater or elder. Many name lists give Maheen as "moon-like" or "radiant", apparently linking it with māh, "moon"; we could not find that sense in the dictionaries, so it is best seen as a popular meaning that has grown up around the name. The name is used in India and Pakistan.
