Mahati meaning
Mahati (महती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Great (feminine); the lute of the sage Narada
Also used to mean: Narada's vina
Mahati (महती) is the feminine of Sanskrit mahat, which Monier-Williams glosses as great, large, abundant, important, high and eminent. As a noun, mahatī is the lute of the sage Nārada, described as having seven or a hundred strings, and Nārada is often pictured carrying it as he sings the praise of Vishnu. Name lists give great or Narada's vina, both from the dictionary. Mahati is also the name of a Carnatic raga, which adds to its appeal for musical families. It is used in South India, where it is spelt Mahathi.
