Mahmooda meaning
Mahmooda (محمودہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Praised, praiseworthy, commendable (feminine of maḥmūd)
Mahmooda (محمودہ) is the feminine of the Arabic maḥmūd, from the root ḥ-m-d, "to praise", the root of Muhammad, Ahmad and al-ḥamd, "praise". Lane's lexicon gives maḥmūd, with ḥamīd, as praised, commended and spoken well of, and so praiseworthy and laudable. The Quran speaks of maqāman maḥmūdā, "a praised station", promised to the Prophet (17:79). Name lists give Mahmooda as "praised" or "praiseworthy", matching the dictionary. It is the female counterpart of Mahmood.
