Arifa meaning
Arifa (عارفہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Knowing, having knowledge; also patient
Also used to mean: knowledgeable, wise, learned
Arifa (عارفہ) is the feminine of Arif (ʿārif), from the Arabic root ʿ-r-f, "to know, to recognise". Lane's lexicon treats ʿārif as meaning the same as ʿālim, "knowing", and adds a second sense, "patient". The same root gives maʿrifa, "knowledge", a key word in Sufi thought, where an ʿārif is one who knows God. Name lists give Arifa as "knowledgeable", "wise" or "learned", in line with the dictionary. It is used by Indian Muslim families.
