Hareem meaning
Hareem (حریم) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
What is sacred and protected; a house's precincts; women's quarters
Also used to mean: sanctuary, sacred place
Hareem (حریم) is Arabic ḥarīm, from the root ḥ-r-m, which carries the ideas of "forbidden" and "sacred", as in al-Ḥaram, the sacred precinct of Makkah. Lane's lexicon gives ḥarīm as the protected surroundings of a house or well, a place one is bound to defend, and also the women's quarters of a house and, by extension, a man's wife. English "harem" comes from the same word. Name lists give Hareem as "sanctuary" or "sacred place", the sense most families intend. It is a modern name used in Pakistan and India.
