Upendra meaning
Upendra (उपेन्द्र) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Younger brother of Indra: an epithet of Vishnu or Krishna
Also used to mean: Lord Vishnu
Upendra (उपेन्द्र) joins upa, "near, lesser", with Indra, king of the gods. Monier-Williams gives it as "Indra's younger brother", a name of Viṣṇu or Kṛṣṇa, who was born after Indra as a son of Aditi. The story behind it is that of Vāmana, the dwarf form of Viṣṇu, who was born to Aditi as Indra's younger brother and won back the three worlds from Bali in three strides. Name lists give the same meaning. Upendra is used across India; it is carried by the Kannada actor and director Upendra, and Punjabi families often write it Upinder.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Vishnu.
