Vamsi meaning
Vamsi (वंशी) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Telugu usage).
A flute, pipe
Vamsi (వంశీ) is Sanskrit vaṃśī, a flute or pipe, made from vaṃśa, "bamboo". Monier-Williams lists the flute as its main sense. The bamboo flute is the emblem of Krishna, and names such as Vamsi Krishna and Vamsidhar, "bearer of the flute", honour him. Although the Sanskrit noun is feminine, in Telugu Vamsi is a boys' name, used on its own or in compounds; the same word also gives Hindi Banshi or Bansi. Well-known bearers include the Telugu film directors Krishna Vamsi and Vamsy.
