Zarina meaning
Zarina (زرینہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Persian origin.
Golden (from zarīn, zarrīn)
Zarina comes from Persian zarīn or zarrīn, 'golden', built on zar, 'gold'. Steingass gives zarīn as golden and lists a string of poetic compounds that show how the word was used: zarrīn-bāl, 'golden-winged', and zarīn-turunj, 'the golden orange', are both names for the sun, and zarīn-nargisa, 'golden narcissus', means the stars. The name adds a final -a to the adjective, a common way of forming girls' names. It is not related to the Russian word tsarina, which it happens to resemble. Well-known bearers include the actress Zarina Wahab and the artist Zarina Hashmi. Baby-name lists give 'golden', the dictionary sense.
