Afra meaning
Afra (عفراء) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
White, or whitish like dust; the thirteenth night of the lunar month
Also used to mean: fair
Afra (عفراء) is Arabic ʿafrāʾ, the feminine of aʿfar, from the root ʿ-f-r. Lane's lexicon defines aʿfar as a dusty colour inclining to white, or simply white, and uses it of gazelles and sheep of that pale colour. He also records al-ʿafrāʾ as a name for the thirteenth night of the lunar month, because of the whiteness of the moon. Name lists give Afra as "white" or "fair", which follows the dictionary. The name is old in Arabic and is used by Muslim families in Kerala and elsewhere in India. It is different from Afrah, "joys".
