Sameera meaning
Sameera (سمیرہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
A companion in conversation, first by night, then at any time
Also used to mean: entertaining companion, pleasant companion
Sameera is the feminine of Arabic samīr, from the root s-m-r. Lane's lexicon explains that samar was conversation held at night, and samīr a partner in such conversation, a word later used for a companion in talk at any hour. The same entry gives samar as the night itself and as moonlight, 'because they used to converse in it', so the word belongs to long evenings of talk by moonlight. Baby-name lists give 'entertaining companion' or 'pleasant companion', in line with the dictionary. In India the name is also chosen by Hindu families, for whom it echoes the Sanskrit samīra, 'breeze, wind', a separate word, as with the actress Sameera Reddy. The masculine form is Sameer.
