Akif meaning
Akif (عاکف) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
One who keeps steadily to a thing or place; devoted
Also used to mean: devoted to worship
Akif (عاکف) is the Arabic ʿākif, from ʿakafa, "to keep to something". Lane's lexicon defines it as one who keeps steadily to a thing or a place, who stays and dwells there. The same root gives iʿtikāf, the practice of withdrawing into a mosque for a set period of prayer, fasting and reflection, and the Quran (2:125) speaks of the Kaaba being kept pure for those who stay there in devotion. The Turkish poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who wrote Turkey's national anthem, carried the name.
