Akshara meaning
Akshara (अक्षरा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Imperishable, unalterable; a syllable, a letter, a sound
Akshara (अक्षरा) comes from Sanskrit a-kṣara, literally "not perishing". As an adjective Monier-Williams gives it as "imperishable, unalterable". As a noun it means "a syllable", above all the sacred syllable om, and also "a letter", "a sound" and "a word". The dictionary further lists akṣara as a name of Brahman and of final liberation, and, in the masculine, as an epithet of Shiva and of Vishnu. In several Indian languages akshara is still the ordinary word for a written character. Indian name lists give Akshara as "imperishable" or "letter", in line with the dictionary, and the related boys' name is Akshar.
