Akshata meaning
Akshata (अक्षता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Unbroken, whole; unhusked grains used in worship
Also used to mean: sacred rice grains
Akshata (अक्षता) comes from Sanskrit akṣata, a- "not" with kṣata, "broken, hurt". Monier-Williams gives it as uninjured, unbroken and whole, and as a plural noun for unhusked grains. That is why akṣata is also the name for the whole rice grains, often coloured with turmeric or vermilion, that are offered to deities and showered on couples at Hindu weddings. Name lists give "unbroken" or "whole", in line with the dictionary. The name is used in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
