Jainam (जैनम्, Gujarati જૈનમ) is a name used in Gujarati Jain families. It comes from Sanskrit jaina, which Monier-Williams gives as "relating to the Jinas" and, as a noun, a follower of the Jinas. Jina, "victor", is the title of the tīrthaṅkaras who conquered inner passions, and name lists follow that root when they give Jainam as "victorious" or "triumphant". The word is also heard in the Jain slogan jainaṃ jayati śāsanam, "the Jain teaching is victorious".
