Parshva meaning
Parshva (पार्श्व) is a Jain boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Jain usage). By its first sound, पा, it is a Kanya rashi name (Uttara Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The side, flank; the 23rd Jain Tirthankara
Parshva (पार्श्व) is the name of Pārśvanātha, the twenty-third Tirthankara of Jainism. As an ordinary Sanskrit word, Monier-Williams gives pārśva as the region of the ribs, the side or flank, and among the Jains as the name of the twenty-third Arhat. Britannica describes Pārśvanātha as the first Tirthankara for whom there is historical evidence, though it is closely mixed with legend, and notes that he preached four vows, to which Mahāvīra later added a fifth. His stories centre on serpents, and in sculpture he is always shown sheltered by a canopy of snake hoods. The name is chosen by Jain families, often in the fuller form Parshvanath.
