Kanwar meaning
Kanwar (ਕੰਵਰ) is a Sikh and Hindu boy's name of Punjabi origin (from Sanskrit kumāra).
Prince; a son, a young man of noble birth
Kanwar (ਕੰਵਰ) is the Punjabi form of a word that goes back to Sanskrit kumāra, a boy or son. In the Mahan Kosh the forms kuvar and kumār cover a young boy, a son and an unmarried youth, and in ruling families the word came to mean a prince. The Guru Granth Sahib uses kuar in this sense in the Savaiye of Bhatt Gayand (Ang 1403), which the scripture's dictionaries render as "prince". Kanwar, also spelt Kunwar, was used as a title for the sons of rulers and nobles; Maharaja Ranjit Singh's grandson was known as Kanwar Nau Nihal Singh. Today it is both a boys' given name and a surname, distinct from Kanwal, the lotus.
