Lingaraj meaning
Lingaraj (लिंगराज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Odia and Kannada usage).
King among lingas (liṅga + rāja), a name of Shiva
Also used to mean: Lord Shiva, king of lingas
Lingaraj (लिंगराज) joins Sanskrit liṅga and rāja. Monier-Williams gives liṅga as a mark, sign or emblem, and in particular the stone emblem of Shiva worshipped in his temples; rāja at the end of a compound means a king or the best of its kind. Lingaraja, "king of lingas", is the name under which Shiva is worshipped at the eleventh-century Lingaraja temple in Bhubaneswar, and the name is used mainly in Odisha. It is also used in Karnataka, especially in Lingayat families, where the form Lingaraju is heard too.
