Sonal meaning
Sonal (सोनल) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit suvarṇa). By its first sound, सो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Golden; from Hindi sonā, gold
Sonal (सोनल) is built on the Hindi word sonā, "gold". Platts traces sonā back through Prakrit to Sanskrit suvarṇa, literally "of a good colour", the classical word for gold. Sonal itself is a modern name rather than an old dictionary word, and families use it to mean "golden". Some name sites also give "precious", which follows from the same idea. The name is used in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Sonal Mansingh, the Odissi and Bharatanatyam dancer, is a well-known bearer.
