Umayal meaning
Umayal (உமையாள்) is a Tamil and Hindu girl's name.
Uma, that is, Parvati
Also used to mean: goddess parvati
Umayal (உமையாள்) is a Tamil form of Uma, the goddess Parvati. The Tamil Lexicon records umaiyāḷ, quoting Manikkavasagar's Tiruvasakam, 'O husband of Umaiyal', and gives umai, from Sanskrit umā, as Parvati; Monier-Williams adds that umā can also mean splendour and fame. The Tamil ending -āḷ marks a woman, so the name is a warm Tamil way of saying 'Uma'. The village of Umayalpuram in the Kaveri delta, home of the mridangam maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman, carries the same name.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Parvati.
