Ashirbad meaning
Ashirbad (आशीर्वाद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Odia usage).
Benediction, blessing
Ashirbad (आशीर्वाद, Odia ଆଶୀର୍ବାଦ) is the everyday word for a blessing in Odia, Hindi and many other Indian languages. It comes from Sanskrit āśīrvāda, which Monier-Williams defines as a benediction. Its first part, āśis, means a wish or blessing, the same word that ends names such as Subhasish and Debashish. Elders give their āśīrvāda when younger people bow to them, and the name presents the child as that blessing. As a given name it is used mainly in Odisha, where the Sanskrit v is said as b, producing the spelling Ashirbad; elsewhere the word is usually written Ashirwad or Aashirvad.
