Digvijay (दिग्विजय) is the Sanskrit dig-vijaya, from diś, "direction", and vijaya, "victory". Monier-Williams explains it as conquest of the quarters, that is, of every direction, and records it as the name of the part of the Mahabharata that describes Yudhiṣṭhira's conquests, and of a work telling how Śaṅkarācārya won debates against rival schools across India. In Indian tradition a digvijaya could be military or intellectual. Indian name lists give "conqueror of all directions" or "world conqueror".
