Elaf meaning
Elaf (ایلاف) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Keeping to, attachment; a covenant of protection and safe passage
Also used to mean: safety, security
Elaf (ایلاف) is the Arabic word īlāf, from the root ʾ-l-f, "to keep to, to be familiar with". It opens Surah Quraysh: "for the īlāf of Quraysh, their īlāf of the journey of winter and summer" (106:1–2). Lane's lexicon records the commentators' readings: the tribe's keeping to these trade journeys, or a covenant and grant of protection that kept their caravans safe. It adds that īlāf Allāh was used to mean God's safeguard. Name lists give Elaf as "safety", "security" or "covenant", which fits this second reading. Ilaf is the same name.
