Gunja meaning
Gunja (गुंजा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The rosary-pea plant and its red berry; humming
Also used to mean: a red berry
Gunja (गुंजा) is Sanskrit guñjā, the rosary-pea plant, Abrus precatorius, and its small glossy seed, scarlet with a black spot. Monier-Williams notes that the seed served as a goldsmith's weight of a little over two grains, and also gives guñjā the senses of humming and a kettle-drum, from the root guñj, "to hum". The bright seeds have long been strung into necklaces in India. Name lists give Gunja as "a red berry", matching the dictionary. It is a short, old-fashioned name, related in sound to Gunjan.
