Gurumurthy meaning
Gurumurthy (गुरुमूर्ति) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (South Indian usage).
The guru in embodied form (from guru and mūrti)
Gurumurthy (गुरुमूर्ति) joins Sanskrit guru and mūrti. Monier-Williams gives guru as a venerable person and especially a spiritual teacher, and mūrti as a solid form or body, an embodiment, manifestation or incarnation, and an image. Together the name means "the guru in visible form". It follows the South Indian pattern of -murthy names, such as Krishnamurthy and Dakshinamurthy, where Dakshinamurthy is Shiva as the supreme teacher. The compound is not in the classical dictionaries. It is used mainly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as a given name and as a family name.
