Kamalakshi meaning
Kamalakshi (कमलाक्षी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Lotus-eyed (feminine of kamalākṣa)
Kamalakshi (कमलाक्षी) joins Sanskrit kamala, "lotus", and akṣi, "eye", so the name means "lotus-eyed". Monier-Williams lists kamalākṣa as an adjective with the feminine form kamalākṣī, and also records Kamalākṣī as the name of one of the divine mothers in the retinue of the war-god Skanda in the Mahabharata. Eyes shaped like lotus petals are a classic image of beauty in Sanskrit poetry and are praised in hymns to many goddesses, which gives the name its devotional feel. It is a traditional name, heard most in South and West India.
