Nadir meaning
Nadir (نادر) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Rare, singular, uncommon; precious, choice
Nadir (نادر) is the Arabic nādir, from nadara, which Lane's lexicon explains as to fall or come out from among other things so as to stand apart. From that idea of standing out comes the everyday sense recorded by Platts for Urdu: singular, rare, uncommon or unusual, and so wonderful, precious, exquisite and choice. Name lists give Nadir as "rare" or "precious", matching the dictionary. In history the name is best known from Nadir Shah, the 18th-century ruler of Persia. It is unrelated to the English astronomical word nadir, which comes from a different Arabic word, naẓīr.
