Rani meaning
Rani (रानी) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit). By its first sound, रा, it is a Tula rashi name (Chitra nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A queen, a princess
Rani (रानी) is the everyday Hindi word for a queen or princess. Platts' Hindustani dictionary derives it, through a Prakrit form, from Sanskrit rājñī, the feminine of rājan, "king", which Monier-Williams glosses as a queen, princess or king's wife. Besides being a name in its own right, Rani is a royal title, as in Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, and an affectionate ending in names such as Radharani. Name lists give it simply as "queen". The actor Rani Mukerji is a well-known bearer.
