Ratnakar meaning
Ratnakar (रत्नाकर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A mine of jewels; the ocean
Ratnakar (रत्नाकर) is Sanskrit ratnākara, from ratna, "jewel", and ākara, "mine, source". Monier-Williams gives it as a mine of precious stones and, poetically, the sea or ocean, which Indian poets imagined as the great store of all gems. It is also recorded as a name of a Buddha, a Bodhisattva and many men. In a well-known popular legend, the sage Vālmīki, author of the Rāmāyaṇa, was called Ratnākara before he turned to the religious life. The name is used in Odisha, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
