Suraj meaning
Suraj (सूरज) is a Hindu boy's name of Hindi origin. By its first sound, सू, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The sun
Suraj (सूरज) is the everyday Hindi word for the sun, and the name means exactly that. It goes back to the Sanskrit words sūra and sūrya, which Monier-Williams records as the sun and the sun god; the Hindi form itself is not a headword in the classical Sanskrit dictionaries. Suraj sits alongside the more formal Surya as a familiar, spoken form of the same idea, and Indian name lists give it the same meaning. A well-known historical bearer is Maharaja Suraj Mal, the eighteenth-century Jat ruler of Bharatpur, whom Britannica calls the state's greatest ruler; he plundered Delhi in 1753 and took Agra in 1761.
