Surya meaning
Surya (सूर्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, सू, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The sun or the sun god
Surya (सूर्य) is the Sanskrit sūrya, the sun and the god who embodies it. Monier-Williams notes that he is praised in ten hymns of the Ṛgveda, which picture him crossing the sky in a chariot drawn by seven horses. Britannica adds that several Vedic deities with solar traits were later merged into him, and that he is usually shown in art in a chariot pulled by seven horses or by a single seven-headed horse. MW also records a feminine sūryā, the daughter of the Sun. As a name, Surya is used across India and in many languages, and it is the base of longer names such as Suryansh, "a portion of the sun".
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Surya.
