Also used to mean: god-like, divine
Deven (देवेन) is a short, modern form of Devendra, the Sanskrit devendra, "chief of the gods". Monier-Williams gives devendra as a name of Indra and of Śiva, and the first part, deva, means god or divine. Indian name lists give Deven as "god-like" or "divine", which keeps the sense of its root. It is used especially in western India, and should not be confused with the English name Devin or Deven, which has a separate origin. Its best-known bearer is the Hindi film comedian Deven Verma.
