Ekambaram meaning
Ekambaram (ஏகாம்பரம்) is a Tamil boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Tamil usage).
Kanchipuram's shrine of Shiva under the single mango tree
Also used to mean: Lord of the mango tree (Shiva)
Ekambaram (ஏகாம்பரம்) comes from Sanskrit eka, "one", and āmra, "mango". The Tamil Lexicon records ēkāmparam as a name of Kanchipuram, the city where Shiva is enshrined beneath a single mango tree. The temple there, Ekambareswarar, is one of the five great Shiva temples of the elements, representing earth, and its legend tells how Parvati worshipped a lingam of sand under the mango tree. Tamil Shaiva families name sons Ekambaram after the deity.
