Indrayani (इन्द्रायणी) is the name of a river in Maharashtra that rises near Lonavala in the Sahyadri hills and flows east to join the Bhima. It passes Dehu and Alandi, the towns of the poet-saints Tukaram and Dnyaneshwar, so it is deeply loved in the Varkari devotional tradition. We could not find indrāyaṇī in the Sanskrit dictionaries; it begins with the name of the god Indra but is a different word from indrāṇī, Indra's queen. Name lists give it as "sacred river". It is chiefly a Marathi name.
