Javeria (جویریہ) is the South Asian spelling of Juwayriya, the name of Juwayriya bint al-Ḥārith, a wife of the Prophet Muhammad. According to a report in Sahih Muslim, her name was Barra until the Prophet changed it to Juwayriya. The word is a diminutive of Arabic jāriya, which Lane's lexicon defines as a girl or young woman, named for her lively running about; it also meant a ship, the sun and, in other contexts, a servant girl. Name lists often give "sharing happiness", a sense not found in the dictionaries.
