We haven't confirmed a dictionary meaning for the name itself. The meaning above is how families commonly use it.
Jyotika (ज्योतिका) is built on Sanskrit jyotis, which Monier-Williams defines as light, the light of the sun, of fire and of lightning, and in the plural the stars and planets. The -kā ending is a common way of making a girls' name, as in Kanika or Kritika. We could not find jyotikā itself as a dictionary word, so it is best seen as a modern name formed from that root. Name lists give it as "light" or "flame". In South India it is usually spelt Jyothika.
