Rahman meaning
Rahman (رحمان) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
The Compassionate, possessing the utmost mercy; a name of God
Also used to mean: gracious, merciful
Rahman (رحمان) is the Arabic raḥmān, from the root r-ḥ-m, "mercy, tenderness". Lane's lexicon explains al-Raḥmān as a name of God, stronger in meaning than al-Raḥīm, with a mercy that embraces believer and unbeliever alike, and records that the word is applied to God only. That is why the full name is usually ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, "servant of the Most Merciful", and why many Indian bearers use Rahman or Rehman as the second part of a name, as the composer A. R. Rahman does. Name lists give Rahman as "gracious" or "merciful". Surah 55 of the Quran is named al-Raḥmān.
