Tamoghna meaning
Tamoghna (तमोघ्न) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
Destroying darkness: the sun, the moon, fire; Vishnu, Shiva
Tamoghna (तमोघ्न, Bengali তমোঘ্ন) joins Sanskrit tamas, "darkness", a word that also stands for ignorance and dullness, with ghna, "killing, destroying". Monier-Williams records tamoghna as a word for the sun, quoting the Mahābhārata, and also for the moon and for fire, the lights that drive darkness away. The same entry lists it as a name of Viṣṇu, of Śiva and of a Buddha. Baby-name lists render it "destroyer of darkness" or "dispeller of ignorance", which follow the dictionary closely. It is a modern Bengali name, also spelt Tamaghna.
