Giridhar meaning
Giridhar (गिरिधर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Holder of the mountain (from giri, mountain, and dhara, bearing)
Also used to mean: Lord Krishna
Giridhar (गिरिधर) joins Sanskrit giri, "mountain" or "hill", and dhara, "bearing" or "supporting". Monier-Williams notes that dhara is used of Kṛṣṇa and Śiva as upholders of the world. The name recalls the story Monier-Williams tells under Govardhana: Krishna lifted that hill near Mathura on one finger for seven days to shelter the cowherds from a storm. Name lists give Giridhar as "holder of the mountain" or simply Krishna. Girdhar is the everyday Hindi and Rajasthani form, as in the devotional phrase Girdhar Gopal.
