Nishita (निशिता) matches Sanskrit niśita, which Monier-Williams defines as sharpened or sharp, both of a blade and of the mind, and also as stimulated, eager and strengthened. On name lists Nishita is most often given as "night". That sense belongs to different words, niśā, "night", and niśītha, "midnight", which sound similar, and we could not find it recorded for niśita itself. So the dictionary meaning is closer to keen or sharp-witted, while "night" is the meaning many families now attach to the name. It is used across India, particularly in Gujarati and Bengali families.
