Shama meaning
Shama (شمع) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Wax; a wax candle, a lamp
Shama (شمع) is the Arabic shamʿ, "wax, a candle", which Urdu says as shamaʿ. Lane's lexicon defines it as a thing with which one makes light, wax or a wax candle, and also beeswax. In Urdu poetry the shamaʿ and the parwāna, the moth that circles its flame and burns, are a lasting image of love and devotion. Name lists give Shama as "candle" or "lamp", the dictionary sense. In Hindu usage a name spelled Shama can instead come from Sanskrit kṣamā, "forgiveness", which is a different word.
